WestJet’s First Brazilian Flight: WS54 Calgary to Sao Paulo
Flight WS54 will launch on November 8th 2026 and will thereafter operate on a 3x weekly frequency.
WestJet flight WS54 from Calgary to Sao Paulo will share the same aircraft type with the airline’s other long haul destinations. That is the Boeing 787-9, which in WestJet’s case has a 3-class configuration featuring:
- 16 Business Class Seats – in a 1-2-1 layout
- 28 Premium Economy Seats – in a 2-3-2 layout
- 276 Economy Class Seats – in a 3-3-3 layout
Most importantly flight WS54 from Calgary to Sao Paulo will be the only nonstop option on the route, and will bring a new Canada to South America travel option alongside Air Canada.
Sao Paulo is A Strategic Destination for WestJet
Sao Paulo, apart from being one of the largest cities in South America, is also one of LATAM Airlines’ primary hubs. That means LATAM operates a massive number of domestic and South American flights from Guarulhos international airport.
Why does that matter in the context of WestJet launching flight WS54 from Calgary to Sao Paulo? LATAM is WestJet’s partner in South America. Therefore, serving Sao Paulo will allow WestJet to offer over 30 onward and connecting travel options to its customers.
When and How Will Flight WS54 Operate
I mentioned earlier in the post that launch date for the flight, if all goes well, will be November 8th. The flight will operate 3 times per week with services every:
- Tuesday
- Thursday
- Sunday

Another Piece in WestJet’s Long Haul Strategy
WestJet has gradually expanded and grown to play a significant role in the Canadian air travel industry. Following a phase of domestic and North American expansion it finally made the big step of going long haul almost 10 years ago on May 6th 2016.
It has since launched flights to Europe and Asia from its long-haul hub in Calgary. 2026 will be the year the airline touches down for the first time ever in South America.
This further affirms the airline’s commitment to long haul expansion to tap into additional growth. An expansion which should continue in coming months and years as WestJet committed to buying more Boeing 787-9 only months ago.
