Air Canada’s Aeroplan is not the sexiest or flashiest frequent flyer program out there. Chances are that if you’re living outside North American you might have not even heard of it before. However, Aeroplan is offering some massive purchase bonuses for those who buy certain miles packages. Here’s how it’ll work and why you might want to consider this offer even if you don’t travel all that often with Air Canada or to Canada itself.

Air Canada Aeroplan Miles For Sale With a Purchase Bonus in December 2024
In the past couple of weeks more than one airline has discounted its miles for purchase, just as Air Canada is doing with Aeroplan frequent flyer miles. For instance I just wrote about Air France KLM Flying Blue offer, you can read all about that here.
The Canadian flag carrier has announced a very attractive sale for whoever purchases its loyalty program Aeroplan miles until December 11th 2024. The airline will add on top of any qualifying purchase a very generous 80% bonus to help boost your account.
Unfortunately the smaller mile cuts aren’t eligible and qualifying purchases only start from 15,000 miles and upwards. That means that you will receive for that purchase a 12,000 mile bonus bringing the grand total that you’ll receive to 27,000 miles. Clearly, the larger the purchase the larger the absolute number of miles that will be granted upon purchase.
The downside is that the 15,000 mile package comes with a 525 CAD$ price tag, which if you aren’t a frequent flyer might be a high price tag.
Why You Might Be Interested Even if You Don’t Often Fly Air Canada
Air Canada’s frequent flyer program, Aeroplan, has a characteristic that makes it incredibly attractive for a very wide audience of travelers. Specifically, since late 2022 Air Canada has a standing codeshare and frequent flyer partnership with none other than Emirates. The partnership among other things states that the airlines recognize reciprocal frequent flyer benefits to each other’s members.
Therefore, you can book reward flights on Emirates using Air Canada’s Aeroplan miles. So far you might not think much about that. However, Aeroplan miles are generally much cheaper than Skywards miles. Also, they go on sale much more often than Emirates’ miles, meaning that by purchasing Aeroplan miles you can often save on reward flights with Emirates.
Signup, as for any other frequent flyer program, is free no matter where you live. You can also purchase Aeroplan miles and take advantage of the current offer even if you don’t fly often with Air Canada or fly to Canada. The airline is part of the Star Alliance which means that along with being able to spend miles on Emirates flights you can also use them on other Star Alliance airlines. Just make sure to make a qualifying transaction every 18 months to avoid miles expiring and losing them.
