Etihad Continues Upward Financial Result Trajectory in 2025 Q1

Abu Dhabi carrier reports 10% profit margin and 16% passenger growth as fleet expansion continues with new A321LR featuring first-class suites

Earning reports coming out of the UAE are a little bit confusing. While Emirates follows the British fiscal year structure (starting in April and ending in March) Etihad, in Abu Dhabi, follows the most widespread fiscal year that matches the solar year. Therefore we've just had the opportunity to look at what the airline achieved over the first 3 months of 2025.

Etihad Continues to Grow At a Very Sustained Pace

The bottom line of Etihad's 2025 Q1 financial results is that the airline is continuing to consistently grow at a steady yet momentous pace. Etihad confirms itself as the fasted growing airline in the Gulf region and reaffirms once again that is now a money making machine, contrary to its pre-2020 years.

As I mentioned multiple times in my posts, the airline has downsized and significantly streamlined its operations making it much easier to achieve profitability with greater consistency.

Etihad's 2025 Q1 came to a close with a very healthy 10% profit margin, up from 9% in 2024 Q1. Also remember that Q2 and Q3 will be significantly busier and more profitable due to the summer season coming to the northern hemisphere with the many Europeans, Asians and Americans going on holidays. That 10% operating margin translates to $187 million USD, or 685 AED million, for the quarter.

The increase came to be thanks to the airline not only boosting capacity over the quarter, compared to the prior year, but also filing its planes more efficiently. What I mean with that is that Etihad managed to achieve a higher load factor than last year at 87%, over 86% of 2024.

Maintaining focus on operational figures, Etihad welcomed aboard its flights 5 million passengers in 2025 Q1, which is up from 4.3 million in 2024 Q1. That is a 16% jump ahead and shows how the airline is becoming a major force to be reckoned with on the global aviation stage. While the rolling figure for the past 12 months shows EY carrying a notable 20 million passengers.

Fleet and Operations Also On Constant Expansion Route

Then of course we've got to touch base on what is most interesting and at heart to the aviation enthusiasts, the airline's fleet. In order to accomodate passenger and revenue growth the fleet too has grown over the first quarter of 2025.

Etihad has increased its destinations and fleet size over the same period of 2024. 2025 Q1 saw the Abu Dhabi based airline take delivery of a very special A321LR, the first to have a first class cabin, albeit of only 2 suites). That is the first narrow body plane to feature a cabin of this type.

Also 2025 Q1 saw Etihad bring back to service a 6th Airbus A380 which also helped boost capacity to congested airports and routes. Finally an additional A350-1000 was delivered and a Boeing 787 soon to follow.

Ex Emirates Cabin Crew and long time aviation enthusiast. I can remember loving aviation and planes since I was a very little boy. I have developed my passion into a deep knowledge of the sector and industry to offer on my sites in depth and precise analyses of what is going on. I also completed cabin crew training with Ryanair, however, I never worked for the company (more on that another time). Finally I also have taken flying lessons completing my first solo flights.
