China Southern Expands Australia Flights in 2026 With More Services to Sydney and Brisbane

Guangzhou–Australia capacity grows as China Southern boosts frequencies to two key markets

Australia is key market for many airlines. That is all the more the case with Chinese carriers, as there's a huge expat and student population living in Australia. Not only, Australians are among the most active populations in terms of air travel making it very enticing for airlines to offer connectivity from and to Europe to Australia. Among the Chinese Airlines expanding their presence in the Aussie market is China Southern. The carrier is set to power up its services to Sydney and Brisbane.

What Is China Southern Changing on Its Australia Network in 2026?

China Southern is preparing to power up the number of services it operates to two key Australian destinations:

Both destination will be getting an increase in the number of flights from China Southern's hub of Guangzhou. The frequency changes will go into effect ahead of the Northern summer seasonality.

How Many Flights Will China Southern Operate Between Guangzhou and Sydney?

Come April 5th 2026 China Southern flights from Guangzhou to Sydney will jump up to a level of 3 per day. That is the highest flight frequency China Southern has ever operated to New South Wales.

The new flight will operate with number CZ8091 on the Guangzhou to Sydney leg (CZ8092 on the return leg).

CZ8092Sydney (SYD) – Guangzhou (CAN)14:10-22:00

This flight, as China Southern's other two, will see the Boeing 787-9 fly the route. The carrier has fitted these planes with a two class configuration featuring:

  • 28 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout
  • 269 Economy Class seats in a 3-3-3 layout

The additional flight will operate throughout the northern summer season with the last service scheduled for October 3rd 2026.

What’s Changing for Brisbane–Guangzhou Flights in 2026?

On the other hand Brisbane, which is currently a daily flight in the China Southern schedule, will be bumped up to a double daily service in 2026.

However, unlike the Guangzhou to Sydney flight I covered above, this will become a change that will stick. China Southern will permanently operate two daily flights year-round between Brisbane and its base in Guangzhou.

The additional daily flight on the Guangzhou to Brisbane route will commence on April 30th 2026. Its schedule will be a day flight en-route to Brisbane and a redeye service on the way back.

CZ8091Guangzhou (CAN) – Sydney (SYD)00:55-12:25
CZ8092Sydney (SYD) – Guangzhou (CAN)14:10-22:00

Another difference with the Sydney service, is represented by the aircraft type chosen to fly this route. The aircraft for this service is the Airbus A350-900 a 3-class setup featuring:

  • 28 Business class seats in a 1-2-1 layout
  • 24 Premium Economy seats in a 2-4-2 layout
  • 262 Economy Class seats in a 3-3-3 layout

What This Capacity Increase Says About China–Australia Air Travel in 2026

The frequency increase confirms how important and strategic Australia is for Chinese carriers. It also highlights, once again, how the demand for flights between the countries remains strong and continues to recover towards pre-2020 levels.
