Qatar Airways Launches its newest route to Lyon France

July 3rd 2023 was quite an important day for Qatar's flag carrier Qatar Airways. The middle eastern airline launched today the latest addition to its route network. From now on the airline will feature regularly scheduled flights to Lyon, France. Let's find out all there is to know about Doha to Lyon Qatar Airways flight (aff.) QR51.

Qatar Airways' Third Service to France

The new Doha (DOH) to Lyon (LYS) became the third scheduled service the Qatari airline operates to France. Qatar Airways as of early July 2023 already operates flight to Paris (CDG) and Nice (NCE). The addition of this third flight will significantly boost operations in one of the largest travel destinations in Europe, France.

The first service of flight QR51 Doha to Lyon saw A7-BCG fly the route taking just over 6 hours to connect the two cities. Passengers aboard were treated with local culinary delicacies to celebrate the launch of this new Qatar Airways flight to France.

The new Qatar Airways Doha to Lyon flight QR51 won't be a daily connection. Not at least initially. Starting July 3rd 2023 Qatar Airways will cover the Doha to Lyon route 4 times per week, with flights available every:

The Plane Chosen for the Qatar Airways QR51 Doha to Lyon Flight

Now let's talk about the plane the airline has selected to serve this latest addition to its destination network. Qatar Airways will be serving the route, at least initially, with the smallest of its wide body aircraft: the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

This planes can accomodate up to 254 passengers on a fully loaded cabin offering:

• 22 Business Class Seats
• 232 Economy Class Seats

However beware business class travellers these planes don't feature the latest and most sought after Qatar Airways business class hard product. Here's what to expect.

The Boeing 787-8 With No QSuites on The Route

The Qatar Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet unfortunately won't offer you the most glamorous hard product the airline has to offer. All the QR 787s do not feature the world renown QSuites.

Specifically the Boeing 787-8 features the very comfortable Super Diamond seats manufactured by Collins Aerospace. The seat configuration is in a reverse herringbone 1-2-1 layout the grants each and every seat direct aisle access. However if you book a flight in the coming weeks on QR51 you are very likely not to get a QSuite on the flight unless there is some unforeseen equipment change.

Where to Sit in Economy?

The QR Boeing 787-8's economy class seats are pretty much all the same, there aren't any seats that have hidden characteristics that might offer you extra leg room, except for bulkhead and emergency exits rows clearly. However if you are traveling as a couple and are willing to put up with some more noise in exchange for not having anyone next to you, you might want to try choosing seats:

• 36 B,C
• 36 H,J

These seats are located in the last row of economy class where the cabin narrows and only have 2 seats next to the window. However as I mentioned above you'll be sitting just forward of the lavatories and of the aft galley. Not the best place to be on a long journey.
