New Swiss Airbus A350-900s will start operating flights on route LX122 from Zurich to Seoul in summer of 2026. Here's what it brings to the table for the airline and passengers.

Swiss International Air Lines is preparing to operate for the third year running its direct route from Zurich to Seoul, South Korea. Flight LX122 for its third year of operation will receive an upgrade. The airline's brand new Airbus A350s will be regularly operating the route throughout the summer season.

The A350 Replaces The Airbus A340-300 on Flight LX122 to Seoul

From an airline's perspective the summer season is just around the corner. It's time to plan and reveal which aircraft will be operating routes. Among routes changing aircraft in the upcoming summer 2026 season is LX122 from Zurich to Seoul.

The flight is a seasonal one, and will be present in the Swiss schedule for the third consecutive year. However, this year the older Airbus A340-300s will be replaced by the A350-900s, the latest addition to the Swiss fleet.

The route will commence service for 2026 on March 29th, retaining the same 3x weekly frequency as prior two years. Flights will operate every: Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

We still don't know if it'll be Swiss' special livery Wanderlust A350 (HB-IFA) or its second classic livery aircraft (HB-IFB) to operate the flight. The latter aircraft is in the process of being delivered these days to the airline. Despite their different exterior appearance, the planes are identical inside.

The Swiss A350 a Major Upgrade for Passengers

This is a major upgrade from a passenger's standpoint. The Airbus A340-300s are among the oldest planes in the Swiss long-haul fleet. Purchasing a ticket, particularly for business class, and flying on the A340-300 can be somewhat disappointing.

The A350-900 on the other hand comes with the latest version of Swiss' cabin interiors. A modern 1-2-1 business class setup replaces the outdated Thompson Vantage staggered configuration alternating 1-2-1 and 2-2-1 layout. Getting a good seat isn't down to luck anymore.

Economy Class passengers can expect a better experience too. The A350 cabin is roomier and with more humidity in the air allowing to breathe better and mitigate effects of jet lag. Seats also get an upgrade with new improved IFE screens.

The A350 Will Unlock Major Savings For Swiss on Zurich to Seoul Flight

Lastly, this is a major upgrade for the airline too. Replacing the A340-300 with the A350-900 on one of its longest routes will unlock huge fuel savings for Swiss on every single sector.

This is significant not only for the environmental impact, but also for (and most importantly from Swiss' point of view) the airline's profits.

Due to the Russian air space closure, far east destinations have become among the longest for European operators. Costs have inflated due to the increased amount of fuel burnt and having a fuel efficient plane such as the A350 on the route will mitigate this.

I also completed cabin crew training with Ryanair, however, I never worked for the company (more on that another time). Finally I also have taken flying lessons completing my first solo flights.
