Cargo operators had some truly magical years during what was a really unfortunate time for the rest of the world. Air cardo demand soared through the roof during the covid crisis as traditional shipping became in many cases impossible. While some cargo operators miscalculated finding themselves overstaffed after 2020, Emirates and its SkyCargo division rode the storm well finding itself in a solid position as aviation returned to normality. Now the airline is in a hurry to get its hands on more freighter planes to cope with demand.
Emirates SkyCargo Orders 5 More Boeing 777F for Immediate Delivery
Emirates’ SkyCargo division has had an extraordinarily strong start to FY24. Demand for air cargo services has increased significantly. Consistently the SkyCargo has registered higher cargo tonnage than it had in 2019.
This pushed the carrier to turn to its exclusive, so far, supplier of cargo planes Boeing for more units. Five more Boeing 777F (freighter version) have been added to the American aircraft manufacturer’s order book. That brings EK’s grand total of Boeing 777Fs ordered to 10.
Not only Emirates SkyCargo stated these planes are expected for immediate delivery. That, translated into non-aviation terms, means that they will be joining the EK fleet by the end of 2025.
These new additions will boost the fleet to 17 units currently comprised of:
- 11 Boeing 777F
- 2 747-400F (Leased)
