Air Canada Launches Live TV on Select Domestic Flights

Air Canada is all set to take its IFE (in flight entertainment) system to the next level. The Canadian flag carrier and founding partner of the Star Alliance, will be rolling out live TV coverage on a selection of its domestic flights. Here’s what the airline will offer and how the rollout will move forward. Let’s take a closer look at the news.

Live TV on Air Canada Flights

As we mentioned earlier the live TV coverage will be limited to domestic flights, at least for the foreseeable future. Air Canada will become the first Canadian carrier to offer such a service on board.

The offering will include 6 among English and French news and sports channels that passengers will be able to watch on their personal screen. Specifically the channels that will be streamed live are:

  • TSN, TSN 2 and RDS – which will offer a comprehensive sports coverage of: soccer, hockey, basketball, football, baseball, golf, professional motor racing.
  • CTV News Channel – an all news 24 hour channel.
  • LCN – Quebec’s all-news station.
  • BNN Bloomberg – for the latest business news.

Which Aircraft Will Offer the Service

Finally let’s take a closer look at which aircraft are geared for live TV streaming. The airline has fitted the systems needed to run the service on 40 planes in its fleet. Including:

  • Boeing 777s
  • Boeing 787s
  • Airbus A330s
  • Airbus A220s

However Air Canada plans to bring the number of Live TV ready planes and flights to over 50% by the end of 2023’s second quarter. However if you’re planning to fly abroad with the Canadian carrier keep in mind you’ll be in the dark from live sports. As said previously this will be available only on domestic flights and not worldwide, unfortunately.

Ex Emirates Cabin Crew and long time aviation enthusiast. I can remember loving aviation and planes since I was a very little boy. I have developed my passion into a deep knowledge of the sector and industry to offer on my sites in depth and precise analyses of what is going on. I also completed cabin crew training with Ryanair, however, I never worked for the company (more on that another time). Finally I also have taken flying lessons completing my first solo flights.
